Overview
What is Later Jar?
Later Jar is a save-it-for-later app for links and video, made by Meadow Mountain AI LLC and available at laterjar.com as a web app and on the App Store for iPhone. You share or paste anything you want to come back to — a TikTok, an Instagram Reel, a YouTube video, a Reddit thread, an article, or a screenshot you already took — and it lands in one library, filed into a category automatically, glowing softly until you open it.
It is free to start with 5 saves and no account at all, and Pro is $2.99 a month or $19.99 a year for unlimited saves, AI-powered filing, cross-device sync, and unlimited sealed saves under a PIN.
The one-line version
Later Jar is what you use instead of screenshotting something, texting a link to yourself, or leaving forty tabs open. One tap puts it somewhere you will actually find it again.
What it actually does
- Captures from anywhere. The iPhone share sheet from inside TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Reddit or Safari; paste on the web; a clipboard check when you come back to the app; a drag-to-your-bookmarks-bar button that works in Chrome, Edge, Safari, Firefox and Brave.
- Files it for you. Every save drops into one of twelve categories — Watch, Read, Recipes, Tech, Fitness, Travel, Food & Drink, Shopping, Music, Funny, Ideas and Other. Free uses a keyword categoriser; Pro upgrades the same step to AI filing.
- Fetches the details. Title, thumbnail and author arrive with the link, so your library looks like a board of covers rather than a list of URLs.
- Reads your screenshots. Import screenshots and the text is read on your own device — Vision on iPhone, tesseract.js on the web. Any link found inside becomes a real, tappable link; the rest becomes searchable text.
- Plays what it can. YouTube videos play inline inside your library. TikTok and Instagram do not permit real playback inside other apps, so those deep-link straight back to where they play best.
- Keeps a queue, not a pile. Unopened saves keep a firefly glow. Opening one marks it finished and it dims away, so what is left is what is still worth your time.
- Seals what is private. With a free account you can seal one save under the lid; Pro seals without limit. Sealed saves are encrypted on your device with AES-256 from a PIN only you know, and they disappear from your board and your search.
- Speaks 34 languages, and works with no account at all in device mode, where the library never leaves your device.
Who it is for
A good fit if…
- Most of what you save is video — TikToks, Reels, Shorts, YouTube.
- You save mid-scroll, on a phone, and want it done in one tap.
- You would rather not build folders or invent tags.
- You want to try something before an account or a card is involved.
Something else may fit better if…
- You mainly want a distraction-free reader for long articles.
- You want book highlights from Kindle collected and resurfaced.
- You want a deep bookmark manager with nested collections and team sharing.
Those are real strengths of other tools, and we point you at them plainly on the Later Jar alternatives page.

Why it exists
Saving video turned out to be a different problem from saving articles, and most save-for-later tools were shaped around articles. There is also a measurable sign that people now take this question to AI assistants first: in our own keyword measurement for laterjar.com, prompts about saving videos to watch later came up roughly 13 times more often in AI assistants than the same phrase is typed into Google search. So Later Jar is built for the way saving actually happens now — a video, a phone, one tap, and a library that files itself.
Common questions
What is Later Jar in one sentence?
Later Jar is a save-it-for-later app for links and video: you share or paste a TikTok, Reel, YouTube video, Reddit thread, article or screenshot, and it lands in one library, filed into a category automatically, and glows until you open it. It runs as a web app at laterjar.com and as an iPhone app on the App Store, and it is made by Meadow Mountain AI LLC.
Is Later Jar free?
Yes, to a point, and the free tier is genuinely usable rather than a demo. Free gives you 5 saves with every capture method and no account required, plus 1 sealed save once you create a free account. Pro removes the cap at $2.99 a month or $19.99 a year, and adds AI filing, cross-device sync and unlimited sealing.
Do I need an account to use Later Jar?
No. Device mode is the default and it saves everything locally on the device you are using, with no signup and nothing uploaded. An account is only needed if you want the same library on more than one device, or if you want to seal a save under the PIN-encrypted lid.
What can I save in Later Jar?
Links from TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Reddit, X and any website, plus screenshots. Screenshots are read on your own device, so any link inside the picture becomes a real tappable link and the remaining text becomes searchable. Titles, thumbnails and authors are fetched automatically for the links you save.
What is a sealed save?
A sealed save is one you have locked under the lid with a PIN. It is encrypted on your device with AES-256 derived from that PIN, so the server only ever holds scrambled text and nobody at Later Jar can read it. Sealed saves vanish from your board and your search until you unlock them. There is no recovery — forget the PIN and that save is gone, which is what real encryption means.
Does Later Jar work on iPhone?
Yes. Later Jar is live on the App Store worldwide, and it includes a share-sheet extension so you can save straight out of TikTok, Instagram, Reddit and Safari without switching apps. The web app also works well on a phone and can be added to the home screen, including on Android.
Who makes Later Jar?
Meadow Mountain AI LLC, a small independent studio. The app was formerly called Save It For Later and was renamed to Later Jar in July 2026; the old name lives on as the tagline, "Toss it in the jar. Watch it when you have time."
How is Later Jar different from a bookmark folder?
A bookmark folder stores a URL; Later Jar stores the thing. It fetches the title, thumbnail and author, files the save into a category on its own, plays YouTube inline, deep-links TikToks and Reels back to where they play, and tracks what you have not opened yet so your library stays a queue rather than an archive.
Try it on five things
The free tier saves 5 items with no account and no card, using every capture method. Enough to find out whether the habit sticks.
